ROUGH MUSIC VIDEO PLAN

The music video is based around the story of working and the day to day same old which becomes boring and tedious. It shows someone working repeatedly and having the same routine. This links with the lyrics "being a slave to money, then you die".
The first shot will be of clouds/sunset/field. There will then be a cut after the instrumental to a cup of steaming tea, this will be a close up. There will then be another cut to a person eating toast, eating breakfast before work, there will then be another cut. There will be continuous cuts to different activities people make before work. It will ten show somebody at work and cuts showing the clock and the time they are at work for. This will then be repeated till the end of the song showing the repetition of life. Throughout this there will be performance shots of the artist which we found from our questionnaire performance is popular so we need to include this.

CASTING DIFFICULTIES

After looking at a wide variety of actors we have decided that a female actor would be the most suitable for our music video. This decision did cause some difficulties for us though as the song is sang by a man which meant we needed to find a different version of 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' in order for our video to be realistic. It took a long time to find a suitable contender but we have found a version we feel fits our actress and music video well.

AUDIENCE MOOD BOARD

This is what age we expect our target audience to be. Its the style and subculture we expect our target audience to be part of and the different activities we expect them to take part in. This helps us have a clear idea of who out target audience in and therefore who we are aiming out music video at.

QUESTIONNAIRE ANSWERS

We have taken out questionnaires to find out what our target audiences look for in Alternative rock music. This will allow us to apply this to our music video to ensure we have created a music video that will suit our music video the best.

From research we have found that males find this genre of music more appealing but females also find this genre appealing so we need to ensure our music video appeals to both genders. We also found that the ages that most listen to this genre of music are 15-20. We had predicted this before our research was taken out as we feel this age is when people are experimenting with subcultures and this music genre is alternative which will appeal to people experimenting and subcultures.

Also from research we have found that people usually watch music video using YouTube which gives us an understanding of the technology and pass times of our audience. We have also found that our target audience watch music videos 'now and then' and therefore they do not watch a lot of the videos. Therefore we need to ensure our music video is to the highest standard and can be noticed by our audience.

Our target audience have also said that they like special effects in music videos meaning we could try and include this in our music video. We also find that they expect to see the band and musical instruments so we should try and include this as well. Typically our target audience expect to see our artist look edgy, tough looking and with a unique hairstyle. They also expect light makeup and leather jackets and more casual clothing. We should consider these things for costumer for our artist.

Settings that are expected by our target audience are stages, alley ways, in storms and in more random locations like train stations. They also prefer performance music videos and strong narrative throughout the music video.  These are all things we need to consider.

JENNA'S ANALYSIS OF THE VERVE

The Video starts off in a car park. The car park is empty and there is low key lighting with the odd flickering light. This is setting a mood for the video and linking in with the genre of the music video which is rock. At the start the pace of the camera is quite fast but soon slows down an seem to move with the pace of the song. The camera moves into the centre point of the lead singer of the band sitting in a modern chair which seems out of place in the car park. It moves into the lead singer who is singing the lyrics showing an element of performance in the music video.
When the instrumental comes in it shows the artist just sat staring at the camera with no emotion on his face.

This is also showing the theme of the song, the song seems quite sad and his emotionless face shows us that this song is not a happy one. The camera moves into an extreme close up of his face which becomes quite scare but seems to fit with the setting and the pace of the song.  Once the camera has moved out from his face you can see the setting has changed but the singer is still there in the same chair. The setting looks rural and gloomy which again is fitting in with the lyrics of the song. The camera then moves out at a fast pace showing what looks like the 7 wonders of the world.  the setting is rather random with different things you would not typically see all together or on a day to day basis.

This therefore doesn't make the chair look that out of place anymore as everything in the setting is random. The scene then flips and comes back through his eye and back into the car park. The camera then moves in from long shots to extreme long shots and then extreme close up until there is all the band sat on similar chairs in the same car park and the camera slowly moves back to an extreme close up. There does not seem to be a link between the lyrics and the music video but there is performance involved. As typical of a rock music video the setting is dark and with low key lighting. The artists are not setting a style like you would expect to see in a pop video. It is all rather gloomy and random which has aspects of the typical conventions of a rock music video.
